Back to Brittany

Quiberon

Yay! Going back to Brittany, France, next week. Brittany, or “Breizh”, has a beautiful coast, with a plethora of photographic opportunities. It’s going to be a one week trip to the north of the province. We’ll be doing plenty of hiking and we have some boat trips to some nearby islands scheduled as well. The weather forecast looks fine: we’re going to have some sunny days, but also a few days with “bad weather”. I put “bad weather” between parentheses, because I think those days are going to be the best days to practice one of my favorite activities: taking pictures!

I plan on doing some  long exposure work, probably in black and white, which is something I really enjoy. I hope to show the results here after the trip.

The picture above was taken in the south of Brittany, on the peninsula of Quiberon, two years ago during a weekend trip. The sunset was boring not spectacular, but it was a nice and quiet evening and we were accompanied by a local guy who played a flute. Luckily for us he played very well…

How it was done:

  • Used a tripod and an ultra-wide angle lens (Sigma 10-20mm)
  • HDR: bracketed 3 shots: -2EV, 0EV,+2EV
  • Imported in Adobe Lightroom
  • Merged to HDR in photoshop
  • Did some tweaking in Adobe Lightroom (cropped slightly, darkened sky, lightened rocks and added a slight vignette)

  • Note to self: next time use neutral density filters for longer exposures to blur the sea in the background a bit more.
